When you get to the eighth week, significant hormonal changes occur in your body to support the development of your baby. Morning sickness, fatigue, and mood swings are common along with an enlarging uterus to accommodate your baby’s growth. The sensitivity of the breasts and the sense of smell is increased in some women at this stage. Staying on a supplement of folic acid and iron, as well as keeping yourself hydrated and nourishing your body with balanced meals, is important during your 8th week of pregnancy. It is a great chance to book your first prenatal appointment if you have not done so.
Your baby at this stage measures about 0.6 inches (15mm) or the size of a raspberry. Your baby’s heartbeat is astonishingly faster than yours at 150-170 beats per minute. At this point, fingers and toes are developing, and the main facial elements, nose, lips, and eyelids are still developing. The brain and kidneys are growing rapidly. Although your baby is moving inside, you will not be able to see these movements just yet. An ultrasound around now can often reveal your baby’s beating heart, allowing you to see a unique view of how your little one is growing.
