At 19 weeks pregnant, you’ve reached the halfway mark of your second trimester and you may find that your energy levels are increasing. Your growing uterus is making your bump more noticeable and may trigger such symptoms as increased appetite, skin color change, and round ligament pain. It’s normal for women at 19 weeks to feel the first movements of their baby, which may be fluttering or light tapping.
Since your body is busy tending to your growing baby, make sure you drink enough, eat healthy foods, and take breaks to rest. It is possible that this week your prenatal care will include an anatomy scan, which gives a good view of your baby’s development.
At 19 weeks of gestation, your baby is about 6 inches long and weighs about 8.5 ounces, which is the size of a mango. The nervous system of your baby is developing rapidly, and neural pathways in the brain are being formed. Hearing and touch are fine-tuning for your baby, so they can recognize your voice among noises.
Your baby’s skin is starting to be protected by a layer of vernix caseosa, which will help to prevent wrinkles that are possible in the amniotic environment. Although you may not have seen movement yet, it’s just around the corner – your baby’s movements will be more pronounced in the coming weeks.
