Being pregnant at 17 weeks means that you’re in your second trimester and you tend to have more pep in your step. Your pregnancy belly is beginning to protrude and for some, round ligament pain is experienced as your uterus grows. Greater blood flow and hormonal changes commonly cause a pregnancy glow that many pregnant women experience. Dizziness may be experienced, which can be eased by drinking lots of water and eating light meals at regular intervals.
The amount of amniotic fluid your body produces has increased to give better care to your growing pregnancy. You may feel gentle movements, which are also known as quickening as your baby moves around inside you. Going to your prenatal appointments is very important – your healthcare provider might recommend having a mid-pregnancy ultrasound to monitor your baby’s growth.
Your baby has grown to a size of a pomegranate, 5 inches and 5 ounces in weight. Your baby’s bones are getting stronger, and fat is developing under the skin, which will make them able to regulate their own temperature at birth.
This week, your baby’s heart pumps about 100 pints of blood per day, and their ears are becoming more sensitive, so they can already hear your heartbeat and voice. Your baby is also practising sucking and swallowing movements, preparing the ground for efficient feeding once they are born.
As you go through your pregnancy ensure that you have a well balanced meal plan, engage in safe exercise and prepare for what is to come in your pregnancy. Stay tuned for more information about your pregnancy journey in the next week!
