At week 10, you’re nearing the end of your first trimester and your body is preparing to cater for the growing life inside you. You might still have morning sickness, though it tends to lessen for most pregnant women shortly. Even though it is early and you might not notice any changes from the outside yet, you could feel your waistline growing wider as your uterus grows. An increase in hormones can cause tiredness and emotional ups and downs, while more blood with oxygen will help your developing fetus.
It’s a perfect time to schedule your first prenatal screening if you haven’t already. Drink plenty of water, fuel up with wholesome foods and rest when you can. Easy exercises such as prenatal yoga or walking can help reduce stress while increasing your blood flow.
In the tenth week, your baby officially enters the fetal phase and develops much faster. Your baby has grown to approximately 1.2 inches (3 cm) from head to bottom, roughly the size of a strawberry. All vital organs are developed and working in the growing fetus. Little fingers and toes are beginning to form, and the baby’s facial features (the nose, eyes) are becoming more apparent. Your baby’s heart, which is now fully developed is beating at a high rate of about 150-170 beats per minute.
Your baby’s limbs are moving, but you may not see these movements yet. This stage is very important in brain development hence ensure you are taking prenatal vitamins with folic acid to support healthy neural growth. Every day will make your baby stronger to handle all the adventures that will come his way.
