The 38th week of pregnancy is your last leg before baby’s arrival. Your body is preparing for birth, and this may cause symptoms such as Braxton Hicks contractions, pressure in your pelvis, and more vaginal discharge. Because of the big size of your baby bump, you may face even greater inconveniences in your day-to-day life. As your body adjusts to your rapidly growing baby, you may feel more tired, have backaches, and have trouble sleeping. It is a good time to assemble your hospital bag and iron out the details of your birth plan. When you notice labor symptoms such as consistent contractions, the water breaking, or a bloody discharge, contact your healthcare provider immediately. Strive to remain well hydrated, take breaks whenever possible, and let your body tell you what to do as you prepare for childbirth.
Your baby looks like a pumpkin, weighing approximately 6.5 to 7 pounds and measuring 19 to 21 inches long. While the lungs and brain of the baby are still developing at 38 weeks, they are now fully developed and ready to be born. It is normal for the baby to be in a head down position, awaiting delivery. It’s normal to feel powerful movements and shifts as your baby is getting ready for delivery. The majority of the thin baby hair has disappeared, and your baby now demonstrates a strong grasp reflex. Since full-term is said to begin at 39 weeks, your baby is due very soon!
In these last days trust your body and do not hesitate to contact your healthcare team with any questions or concerns. You’re almost there!
