The 33rd week of pregnancy takes you to the home stretch of your pregnancy. You should expect to feel more tired, have swelling, and experience more frequent Braxton Hicks contractions as your body adapts to your baby’s growth. You may find that your abdomen is more noticeable, and it may be a little difficult to get a good night’s sleep in a comfortable position. Heartburn, difficulty in breathing, and backaches are common when your uterus is enlarging.
It’s a great chance to solidify your birth plan, pack your hospital bag, and keep your regular prenatal appointments. You should expect your doctor to discuss Group B Strep testing and ensure that your preparations are ready for a safe delivery.
At the end of the 33 rd week, your baby is the size of a pineapple, measuring approximately 17 inches in length and about 4.5 pounds in weight. The baby’s bones are becoming denser, but the skull is still pliable to help with the delivery.
At this point, your baby is developing key skills such as sucking, swallowing, and breathing. The lungs are growing and a layer of fat is formed under the skin, which makes your baby look fuller. You could also observe your baby showing more identifiable sleeping patterns, and more activity with firm kicks and rolls.
