Even if you are 2 weeks pregnant, you might not actually be pregnant. That is why medical practitioners count pregnancy from the date of your last menstrual period (LMP). At two weeks into your cycle, ovulation usually takes place, which prepares your body to release an egg. This is where conception may happen if sperm reaches the egg and your pregnancy story is about to start.
This week your body is preparing for what might be conception. Estrogen and luteinizing hormone (LH) levels rise, indicating ovulation, with progesterone making the uterine lining thicker in case of implantation. Some of the common symptoms of ovulation include mild lower abdominal pain, excessive clear, stretchy cervical mucus, and increased basal body temperature.
As you may not be experiencing any pregnancy symptoms at this point, tracking your ovulation may help if you’re trying to conceive. By opting for wholesome nutrition, regular exercise and avoiding tobacco and alcohol, you can improve your body’s health and increase your chances of conceiving and carrying a pregnancy.
Now, all there is is a possibility of a baby! Here, no fertilization has occurred, but soon, one sperm may fuse with an egg to form a small cluster of cells that will be your baby. In case of conception, the zygote begins its journey down the fallopian tube and then attaches itself to the lining of the uterus shortly after.
Even unknowingly, your baby’s DNA structure is determined during fertilization, which determines everything from appearance to inherited traits. As a pregnancy test won’t indicate positive results yet, it is advisable to be attentive to early pregnancy symptoms and begin prenatal vitamins with folic acid to help your body at this stage.
