What is Uterine Cancer?
Uterine cancer begins in the uterus, the pear-shaped reproductive organ where a baby grows. Most uterine cancer starts in the lining (endometrium) and is known as endometrial cancer. Other types are less common, including uterine sarcomas, which occur in the muscles and supportive tissue of the uterus.
Causes of Uterine Cancer
Although the exact cause of uterine cancer is not known, several factors may increase the risk of uterine cancer, including:
- Age – Women over 50 are at higher risk.
- Hormonal Imbalances – Excess estrogen exposure without progesterone balance.
- Obesity – Excess Body Fat – Obesity can cause excess estrogen levels.
- Family History – Genetic predispositions like Lynch syndrome.
- Diabetes and Hypertension – Indirectly, diabetes and Hypertension may increase the risk
- Early Menstruation or Late Menopause – Longer exposure to estrogen.
Understanding these factors can aid in early intervention through regular uterine cancer screening.
